Okay.
I know, it's not a survey or anything.
This is for the art major/art inspiree/art something.

Everyone needs a little critique, right? Crits are essential to the way art is made/distributed/perfected. But just how much criticism really is needed?

Today (yesterday now) in my Drawing One class, we sat around our still life drawings for three hours. But, we weren't working on them. We were FUCKING taking God damn time to critique them. And, as I've said, crits are good, but, overloading them with bull shit is fucking stupid.

For example; there's this one girl in the class, I believe her name is Tarissa (?) and I honestly don't have a problem with her, but my buddy Nick does. Which is understandable, she talks too much. Well, anyway, we're on the first drawing out of like, twenty, and all she's doing is making stupid references on how she can "feel" the way the art moves. WTF?! I mean, really? If you're "feeling" the art move, then roll over buddy, I wanna take some shrooms too. I understand how art can move you, but criticism is about how it's done or how it can be done better, not how much you like or dislike it.

Liking or disliking can be saved for like, I dunno, YOUR OWN FREE TIME. Besides, no artist listens to other peoples advice. Just ask any one of us. Sure, we may LOOK like we're taking advice, but unless we ask for it ourselves, we're not listening to you. I don't care if you like the way my "drum entices your eyes as it curves around" and how "the drapery is stunning, I just feel I can find Sirius Black in it." FUCK YOU MAN!

I don't care! It's called artistic expression for a reason. Even if the drawing/painting/sketch looks bad, if the artist is happy with it, why should you argue? As a good friend told me, "Why fix what ain't broken?"

And another thing. People who just ramble on and on about the same God damn thing for like, fifty minutes? Go jerk off in the bathroom or something! No one wants to hear it, and if you do, good for you. I don't care. I'm not in this to hear other peoples' shit. I'm hear to learn how to better myself. That's why I'm paying over ten thousand dollars a year to these people. I can learn this on my own time, but I'd rather have someone with experience say something about it, not these freshman fucks who only know how to swim in the curtains of black charcoal dust.

Plus having people in the same stance for three God damn hours makes them pissy enough as is. Why do you want that?

Yes, I like hearing that my art is good, but unless I seriously either respect you as a friend/artist, I'm not really going to care. It's my art. I'll improve it if need be.
